Use meal photo estimation
Last updated: August 2026
Meal photo estimation can help you practice reading a plate and estimating carbohydrates. It is an educational support tool, not a dosing instruction.
Send a clearer photo
For better results:
- Use good light and avoid blurry photos.
- Keep the whole plate visible.
- Add context when useful, such as ingredients, portion size, or product labels.
- Avoid photos where sauces, bowls, or packaging hide the food.
Understand the estimate
The result is an estimate. It can be wrong when a portion is hidden, a recipe is unusual, or a food looks similar to another one.
Compare the result with your own knowledge, product labels, and the method recommended by your care team.
Why an analysis may be blocked
An analysis can be unavailable when:
- Your plan does not include the tool.
- Your daily allowance is exhausted.
- The image is not a meal photo uploaded to Happy Diabetes.
- The upload failed or the image is not readable.
You can read plans and quotas for the current access model.
Use with medical caution
Do not calculate or change insulin doses only from a generated estimate. Use your personal plan and ask your care team when a decision is uncertain.
The medical disclaimer explains the full safety limit.
