Ingredients

  • 80 g rolled oats
  • 200 ml whole milk
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 medium banana
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. 1

Pour the rolled oats and milk into a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, for 5–7 minutes until the oats are soft and the porridge reaches your preferred consistency. Add a splash of water if it thickens too quickly.

  2. 2

Remove from heat and stir in the ground cinnamon.

  3. 3

Divide the porridge between two bowls. Slice the banana and arrange the rounds on top.

  4. 4

Drizzle half a tablespoon of honey over each bowl and serve immediately.

Diabetes tips

Carbs come from oats, honey, and banana — the oats alone have a moderate GI, but the honey and banana push this meal firmly into HIGH glycemic impact territory. Use your usual dosing method agreed with your care team and pre-bolus 15–20 minutes before eating to stay ahead of the spike. Log this breakfast in your journal and check your blood sugar at 2 hours post-meal.
