Ingredients

  • 600 g Granny Smith or Bramley apples
  • 60 ml water
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. 1

Peel, core, and dice the apples into roughly 2 cm (¾ inch) chunks.

  2. 2

Place the apple pieces in a medium saucepan with the water and lemon juice. Cover and cook over medium-low heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are completely soft.

  3. 3

Remove from heat. Add the ground cinnamon and mash with a fork or potato masher to your preferred texture — chunky or smooth.

  4. 4

Taste and adjust cinnamon if desired. Serve warm or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

Diabetes tips

Carbs come from the natural fruit sugars in the apples — use your usual dosing method agreed with your care team to dose precisely and log it in your food journal. Cinnamon may support insulin sensitivity, and the fiber from the apples helps slow glucose absorption for a gentler rise.
