Ingredients

  • 200 ml whole milk (or unsweetened plant milk)
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp honey (optional, adds extra carbs)
  • 1/2 tsp coconut oil (optional, boosts curcumin absorption)

Instructions

  1. 1

Pour milk into a small saucepan. Add turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper.

  2. 2

Warm over medium-low heat, whisking constantly, until steaming but not boiling (about 4–5 minutes). Do not boil — it diminishes the flavour.

  3. 3

Stir in honey and coconut oil if using. Pour into a mug through a fine strainer if any clumping occurred. Serve immediately.

Diabetes tips

Carbs come from milk (LOW GI). If adding honey, remember to account for the extra carbs in your usual dosing method. Curcumin in turmeric has studied anti-inflammatory properties, but it does not replace your diabetes treatment. The black pepper is essential — it increases curcumin absorption by up to 2000%.
