Manage your Happy Diabetes subscription
Last updated: May 2026
Happy Diabetes offers three payment sources depending on where you subscribe:
- App Store (iPhone/iPad) — billed by Apple
- Google Play (Android) — billed by Google
- Web (direct checkout) — billed by Stripe
Each source is managed independently. This page explains how to move between them, and what to do if you end up with two active subscriptions at the same time.
Why it matters
Apple and Google rules require mobile apps to use their built-in payment systems (IAP) for any subscription purchased inside the app. In return, Happy Diabetes cannot cancel or refund an App Store or Google Play subscription on your behalf — only the store that sold it can.
In practical terms:
- If you subscribed on your iPhone, your subscription lives in iOS Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions.
- If you subscribed on Android, it's in the Play Store → Menu → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- If you subscribed on the web, it's in Account Settings → Manage my billing (Stripe portal).
I subscribed on iPhone and want to switch to web billing
Here's the recommended procedure:
- Open Settings → your name (top) → Subscriptions.
- Tap on Happy Diabetes, then on Cancel Subscription.
- You keep paid access until the end of the current period. Note the end date.
- On the day the period ends, go back to the Happy Diabetes site and pick the plan you want.
Why wait until the end of the period? Because if you subscribe on the web straight away, you'll end up with two active subscriptions in parallel until the App Store one expires — meaning two charges for the same month. Apple does not refund the current period when you cancel, unlike Stripe which can prorate on the web side.
I subscribed on the web and want to move to App Store / Google Play
- Go to Account Settings → Manage my billing, then cancel your Stripe subscription (you can choose to cancel immediately or at the end of the period).
- Once the cancellation is effective, open the native Happy Diabetes app (iOS or Android).
- Go to the Plans page and choose the plan you want: payment will automatically go through Apple or Google.
I've been charged twice (two active subscriptions at once)
This can happen if you subscribed in two different places without canceling the first. Here's what to do:
- Identify where you have two subscriptions. Go to
Account Settingsin Happy Diabetes: if we detect two active subscriptions, a red banner will alert you. - Pick one to keep (usually the cheapest, or the one with the best expiration date).
- Cancel the other in the matching store:
- App Store: iOS Settings → Subscriptions → Happy Diabetes → Cancel.
- Google Play: Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Happy Diabetes → Cancel.
- Web: Account Settings → Manage my billing → Stripe portal → Cancel.
Requesting a refund
For the period that was double-billed:
- App Store: use reportaproblem.apple.com to request a refund from Apple. Apple reviews each case individually.
- Google Play: use the Google Play help center to request a refund.
- Stripe (web): contact Happy Diabetes support (see the contact page). We can process Stripe refunds directly.
If Apple or Google declines the refund, contact Happy Diabetes support too: at minimum, we can offer you an equivalent free period on the payment method you want to keep.
Why can't Happy Diabetes migrate my subscription automatically?
It's a limit set by Apple and Google. There is no public API that lets an app:
- Cancel an App Store / Google Play subscription from code.
- Transfer a subscription paid through Apple to Stripe (or vice versa).
- Make the two payment systems talk to each other.
That's why the standard solution across multi-platform apps (Spotify, Netflix, Headspace, Calm) is the same: cancel manually at the source, then subscribe at the new source. You're not alone in this.
Got a question we didn't anticipate?
Contact Happy Diabetes support via the contact page. In your message, please share:
- Where you subscribed from (App Store / Google Play / web).
- Which source you'd like to move to.
- Whether you see two active subscriptions (a screenshot helps).
We'll get back to you as soon as we can.
