Account and data deletion

Who is responsible for your data

Happy Diabetes (SIRET 889 899 282 00038), published by Claire Marchyllie, is the data controller for personal data processed in connection with the Happy Diabetes application (website and iOS / Android applications).

This page explains account deletion and the records retained for the purposes described below, in accordance with article 17 of the GDPR (right to erasure).

How to delete your account (from the app)

If you still have access to your account, the procedure takes less than a minute:

  1. Sign in to the Happy Diabetes website or open the iOS / Android app
  2. Go to your Dashboard
  3. Open your Settings, then the Privacy section
  4. In the Delete my account section, click Delete my account
  5. Confirm by following the instructions in the dialog

Deletion is immediate. You will receive a confirmation email at the address associated with your account.

How to delete your account without access (lost password, etc.)

If you can no longer sign in, send an email to support@happy-diabetes.com from the address associated with your account, with the subject line Account deletion. Include:

  • The email address of the account to delete
  • An explicit confirmation of your request (for example: "I request the permanent deletion of my Happy Diabetes account and all associated data")

We respond without undue delay and no later than one month after receiving your request. Where its complexity or the number of requests requires an extension, this period may be extended by two months; we inform you and explain the reason within the first month. We request identity verification only where there is reasonable doubt and keep it proportionate.

Data deleted permanently

The account data listed below is deleted. The contractual and accounting records described below are retained for the stated purposes:

  • Profile information (name, email, nickname, photo, preferences)
  • Personal notes, calendar events, bookmarks and favorites
  • Your complete health journal: glucose readings, meals, insulin doses, physical activities, weight, mood, energy, free-text notes, meal photos, and historical calculation snapshots if present
  • Imported glycemic reports and associated files
  • Onboarding questionnaire answers (diabetes type, time since diagnosis, equipment, priorities, etc.)
  • Progress in guides and exercises (chapters completed, exam scores, review frequency, activity paths, spaced-repetition cards)
  • Conversations with Alfred (our AI assistant) and the memory Alfred has built about you
  • Historical insulin settings, time-of-day profiles, and dose history if present
  • Weekly menus, manually added meals and grocery lists
  • Notification preferences and push subscriptions
  • Healthcare professional verification requests (if applicable)

This deletion also cascades to our processors: Cloudflare (conversation storage), Backblaze (photos), RevenueCat (In-App Purchase subscriptions).

Anonymized data retained (no link to you)

Some data is kept in an anonymized form: the link to your account is permanently severed and any fields that could re-identify you are erased. What remains is an aggregate signal useful for content quality and product analytics, with no personal data within the meaning of the GDPR (Recital 26).

  • Product usage statistics (PostHog): your navigation events keep a pseudonymous identifier that can no longer be tied to your identity (identifying properties — email, subscription, questionnaire data — are erased at deletion). Used to measure conversion funnels and retention rates without you.
  • Error reports and "was this helpful?" votes: your contributions to factual error reports and content helpfulness votes survive anonymized (the link to your account and any email you provided are erased). Used to improve editorial quality for the benefit of other users.

Data retained and for how long (legal obligations)

  • Web contracts and correspondence evidencing performance: throughout the service and five years after its actual end for contracts confirmed to be worth less than €120; for continuous contracts worth €120 or more, ten years after the actual end of supply. Tax obligations or periods linked to a complaint may require a later expiry. Account deletion does not erase a pending withdrawal or refund.
  • Invoices, credit notes and accounting records: ten years from the end of the relevant financial year. Tax records for launch transactions also follow their ten-year period from creation or the latest transaction in the register. We use the latest applicable expiry, without restarting the period for each copy. Mandatory details on issued invoices are not erased with the Stripe profile.
  • Unaccepted, unpaid checkout drafts: ninety days after confirmed expiry, once the absence of a payment or pending request has been checked.
  • Complaints and disputes: only relevant records are retained for as long as handling the case and the applicable periods require. They are not used to market to you or recreate your account.

Health data and AI conversations are not kept in contractual archives merely because you subscribed. Recovery copies may temporarily remain in restricted-access backups according to their rotation cycle; deleting an account does not instantly remove every backup copy.

Detailed criteria are set out in the privacy policy. To obtain your records after deleting your account, contact support@happy-diabetes.com; a proportionate identity check may be needed, without recreating an account.

Special cases

Active subscription via the App Store or Google Play: Happy Diabetes cannot cancel a subscription purchased through Apple's or Google's store. Please cancel it yourself, before or after the deletion:

  • App Store (iPhone): Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions
  • Google Play: Play Store app > Profile > Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions

Sign-in via Google: deleting your Happy Diabetes account does NOT revoke the authorization grant given to Google. You can revoke it yourself from myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Your GDPR rights

Before or after deletion, you can exercise the rights granted to you by the GDPR:

  • Right of access and portability (art. 15 and 20): you can download your full data as a JSON archive from Settings > Privacy > Export my data. Includes profile, journal, Alfred conversations, health data, learning progress, subscriptions.
  • Right to rectification (art. 16): direct editing from Settings > Profile.
  • Right to object and restriction (art. 18 and 21): support@happy-diabetes.com.
  • Complaint to a supervisory authority: France's CNIL at cnil.fr/en/plaintes, or your country's equivalent authority, if you believe your rights are not being respected.
